Geography

'Geography is the subject that holds the key to our future' - Michael Palin

The main aim of the geography curriculum at Maybury is to ensure that children understand the world they live in. Children will learn about their place in their local community, the United Kingdom and the wider world. Through the study of a wide range of localities, places and environments, children will develop an understanding of what is going on around them, become educated global citizens, be aware of the threats our world faces and passionate about its protection.

We have planned our curriculum so that children will have a good knowledge of location of significant places; understand physical and human characteristics and their interdependence; and develop a wide geographical vocabulary.

Geography is taught as a discrete subject but links are made in and from other subjects where appropriate.  Learning takes place both in the classroom and also through fieldwork and educational visits.

Our children should leave our school equipped with geographical knowledge and skills that will enable them to be ready for the curriculum at Key Stage 3 and for life as an adult in the wider world.
